Introduction

OOOOWords on a page are nothing. Words are nothing in the sense that
flint is nothing until put to appropriate use. When flint is struck to create sparks, a small fire is kindled, one which can be fed to grow enormous and give off a roaring heat.

OOOOWords were an integral part of the ministry of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ.

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what
ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
John 15:7

OOOOThe words of Jesus brought new and awakening life to many, healing to others, and freedom to even more. His spoken words performed wonders. They were food for thought to the masses and righteous sustenance to his close followers. His mission kindled what grew into a roaring fire, a burning desire for the fullness of life that he promised.

OOOORepeatedly, Jesus gave specific instructions that were to be followed. He endeavored to have his listeners, disciples, and detractors get beyond his words and deeds to the truth that they represented, to the spiritual reality that he embodied. He taught by illustration (parable) and by example (his own life according to prophecy).

OOOOJesus proved his words. He was a way-shower. He plainly gave instructions for his followers to do as he did. Jesus the Christ left an exacting account that leads to hopeful results, not just promised for the future, but available here and now.

OOOOLift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. John 4:35 The words that Jesus spoke on earth are recorded in the first five books of the New Testament. His words are referred to as red letter text, and in some Bibles they are printed in red. This concise work is derived from the King James Version. It focuses on specific words that recur most frequently in his discourses. Jesus used these words as commands to tell people what to do.

OOOOThe words presented here were directed by Jesus to those who agreed with, wondered about, or wished to benefit from his mission. And so it is with believers today.

We study Scripture to understand how to live.
